ART EXPERIENCE - Theme: 'IMAGINATION'

Updated: Sep 24, 2023

In Flora’s Art Room, every Experience (about 1.5/2 hours long) is shaped around a theme, and includes three parts: one INTRO with a creative warm-up activity involving Flora’s adventures, one part of ART APPRECIATION, and one part of ART MAKING. (Read more about it in the previous blog post).

Today's theme is IMAGINATION.

1. INTRO.

Imagine you had a magic pencil that could make only one of your drawings come true... what would you sketch?

Fantastical creatures? Rockets? Aliens? Idyllic Villages? Natural phenomena that would bring order to our planet?

2. ART APPRECIATION.

'Woman in Front of the Sun' by Joan Miró (1950) and 'Before the Snow' by Paul Klee (1929) are my choices for this theme.

They are both incredibly imaginative, let's see how many different interpretations we can come up with!

3. ART MAKING.

This project is designed to encourage creative thinking, while having fun playing with many elements of art and principles of composition.

Here's what to do:

- cut out colored shapes (construction paper will work perfectly) using scissors and hole punches

- glue each shape randomly on a card (4.5x6 inches is the size I chose)

- build your 'Category Wheel' (download the free printable pdf!)

- pick a card, spin the wheel, use the shape as a start for your drawing!
